Message polyurethane? They function to minimize damage to the fairings when the bike is laid down, if you've laid your bike down and it hits a pothole or curb it will be fubared either way. You do wear replacable knee sliders to help stabilize a turn when leaning the bike over, though, no disrespect intended.
